Greetings!

So, this is my first time creating a blog and I am ready to see what all of the buzz is about. One of my worst fears is that, since this is a Language Arts blog, I will have typos in any of my posts :) I will definitely do my best to make sure there aren't any, but please have mercy on me since I do have a 5-month old son at home who has not quite grasped the concept that night time is for sleeping. There certainly are some days that I feel like a zombie (like today).

I am excited to take the classroom discussion out of the classroom and hear what you all are thinking about once you leave my class. There will be times that we post about what we're reading, current events, and what we think about other language arts "things" (I know...definitely a rice cake word there!).

So, please join me as we try this out. Who knows...it might be a lot of fun!

  1. Your blog is awesome. I don't have one so I don't know how to do this kind of thing, but your blog is still cool.

  2. Coming in the middle of the school year was not an easy start. First I had to get used to my classes then my teachers and last but not least the students. I can say it was tuff But I made it through the journey; and now the time is here to finally end this journey and start a new one as becoming a 9th grader and also learning about there habitat as well as my own for an example: trying to improve more in work and pay more attention to what’s going on.

Being an 8th grader will be missed the most, it’s the end of your child hood basically and you’re moving on to becoming a young adult. Learning new responsibility’s and more hard work. The memories in the hallway will be missed also; it has so much to tell with so little time. Maybe a new story will lead us on.

  3. The thing I will miss the most about 8th grade is all of the activities we did. I liked going to the gym in homeroom and playing games. I also like survivor day a lot. Our school does a lot of fun things and there is a lot of things you can be involved in for it just to be middle school. Award show is so much fun. I think I am going to miss Summit Lakes way more when I actually get to high school. It has been a fun year and I am going to miss it a lot.

  4. The things I will miss the most about 8th are slacking off and messing around. In high school grades are very important and you can’t slack off or your grades will drop very quickly. I hope I will be very successful in high school and finish with at least a 3.0 GPA; but of course I will aim higher. As we transfer to LSW we are becoming young adults and we will have to start taking responsibility for our words and actions. I am very excited to go to high school but I know I will truly miss Summit Lakes.

  5. The things I will miss most about 8th grade are the friends I have made. I have made a lot of new friends this year and may not even stay in touch with them next year and throughout the rest of my life. I will also miss my schedule. I have a very easy set up on mostly one side of the school all day however in high school you rarely have time to go to your locker. I will also hate having half lockers I had one last year and it stunk if I do have a half locker I would want it on top. The bottom stinks because you always have people over you pushing you around. At least you meet more people when you have half lockers.

  6. This year has been awesome getting to know you Mrs. Griffin. A couple of things that I enjoyed was getting to know new people and hanging out with the old ones. I’m thankful for having you this year and I hope that my little sister Katie will have you her 8th grade year also!

  7. This year was kind of hard for me. I changed schools in the middle of the year. I went to Cambell at first then I came to Summit Lakes. It was hard at first because I didn’t know very many people but now I know everyone. It makes it a lot easier when you know more people. Also I have got to know all my teachers better so that makes it a little bit easier. This year has been fun.

  8. Middle school here at Summit Lakes has been a great 2 years. I am glad that it has come to an end but will definitely miss many days spent here at this wonderful school. I have never written a blog before so I will learn with you on the concept and techniques of this new strategy for me. I am happy for the opportunity of this blog though, because students will get the chance to say what is really on their mind and not just what the teachers want to hear. Thank you so much for your dedication to Summit Lakes and all of its students this year and hopefully for many more.

  9. The thing that I will miss most about 8th grade is the teachers, especially Mrs. Jacques. Its going to be hard to try to get used to the new teachers we will be getting as freshmen. Also Mrs. Jacques is the best principle I have ever had. She is funny; she knows everyone’s names and is friends with everyone in the school. I will also miss that we are the top of the school. When we go into high school we will be the lowest grade level there, so that will be a bummer as well. I am going to miss 8th grade, period.

  10. Summit Lakes Middle School has been fantastic for me! I have made so many new friends and had a lot of fun in the activities we do in different classes. I think the blog idea is great because us students can actually respond to teachers like we want to. I’m not saying be all rude to teachers and smart off at them, I am saying that this is a good way to communicate with teachers over the summer and next year when we are in high school. For the RAH logs we have had this year have been okay I guess. I’m not much of a reader at home but they made me read which I know has helped me in school and will most definitely help me in high school. I will miss SLMS very much but am excited to be moving into Lee’s Summit West. I will miss all my teachers he but definitely visit.
