  1. I believe that the theme of my story is never to give up. I believe this because the characters in my story always believed that the goverment would one day let their people go back to their homes. This belief kept them from giving up and letting themselves die like so many of their people. Instead of letting starvation, dehydration, and freezing temperatures take them, they wanted to see their homes again and live to enjoy the fresh air, water, and food. That is why I believe the theme of my story was to never give up.

  2. The theme of my book "The Shark Girl" is to mever lose hope, or to never give up. An example would be when she tried to make dinner with her one arm, she kept spilling eggs on the counter and on the floor but she kept on going and she kept on making her dinner. She didn't give up or lost hope. Another example would be when she tries to draw, it is very hard for her to draw with one arm, let alone her left arm when she normally would draw with her right. Yet she still tries to draw, and she still keeps her head held high when times get hard. These are the reasons why I believe the theme is to never give up or lose hope.

  3. I beleive the theme of the novel Trash, is that no matter how hard life gets, never give up. I think this because in the begginning Boy and Sissy were two kids without a real family and without names. Even as the story moves on, they end up at a house next to a trash site with abusive orphan parents. But when they somehow make it to St. Louis they figure out that art is their niche. The two characters momentarily find peace and happiness while exploring the city at night and putting their art skills to good use. But after many more tragedies sissy finds herself alone in an all time low. She begins doing bad things and for a moment just gives up. But she ends up pulling herself together and getting a job. In the end she talks with the people she loves most (jobe and Raynell) and goes to an art institute in Chicago. She never gave up.

  4. I belive the theme in my book, Song of the Sparrow, is that women can do anything men can do. In my story, Elaine follows the army of men everywhere they go. The takes care of them. She is there when they need their clothes sewn up from a hole, or to treat their injuries. She walks just as much as they do and doesn't get treated with any special care. Then men had told her many times to stay and not go with them because it is not a job fit for a women, but she refuses each times and goes with them.

  5. In my book "Witness" I believe the theme is to stay together and keep it together. One reason is that once the Ku Klux Klan arrives, the townspeople begin to turn on one another. There are murder attempts and robbery with the people that used to be as close as family. Another reason is that Leanora, the one African American girl, saves another man from being wrongly accused because he showed her a little bit of kindness. If he hadn't, he could have been dead. Also, Viola kept her life together by resisting her husbands pleas to join in with the Ku Klux Klan.

  6. I believe the theme of my book, Heartbeat, is to enjoy the simple things in life. In the story, the main character faces a lot of problems. Her mother is pregnant, her grandpa is forgetting everything, and her friend wants her to join track. She doesn't want to join the track team because she wants to run for the fun of it. She doesn't think that there has to be a winner or a loser. Whenever she runs she always notices the trees, the ground, the leaves, the barn and most of all, her heartbeat.

  7. I think the theme of my book "By the River" is to stick with your family no matter what situation you are in life. Harry gets into a lot of situations where harry's seems to part from his family, but in the end they come together. Whether it's seeing something you shouldn't have and being in danger of being beat up by a biker, or your dad's finger getting cut off, family is first.

  8. I think the theme in the book I read, "Tropical Secrets" was to always believe that there is hope for everything, and that you can always be happy by being with friends or finding joy in the things you like to do. In this story, the boy Daniel, is a lonely refuge from the Holocaust who was separated from his parents and sent on a ship to Cuba. In Cuba, he meets a girl named Paloma and a man named David. They both help him and give him shelter. Daniel can't stop thinking about his parents. To help him get away from those bad thoughts and what is happening to him, Daniel like to play music. If he does not have any instruments, he thinks that everything around him is music. He loves music and he knows his parents did too. He always is thinking how great music is. So that is why I think that the theme of this book is that there is always hope and that you can find happiness in the things you love to do.

  9. I believe the theme of my novel Ringside 1925 is that it is fine to believe in multiple things in life. In the small town of Dayton Tennessee a teacher is arrested for teaching evolution, which according to the Butler Act was illegal. The story has multiple views some from children from Dayton some of adults from Dayton and a couple of reporters on the case. As the trial builds up friends start to think differently of religion and evolution. Before the defense lawyer left he was talking to a boy and asked "Do you plan to let that stop you?" He said this after the asked if he could be a lawyer even though he was black.

  10. In my book, "Everything is fine" by Anne Dee Ellis, I think the theme is that sometimes whats best isn't always what you want. I think this because in the book the main character, Mazzy is constantly trying to keep her mom out of treatment centers. In order to keep her mom at home, She lies to her dad, and to social workers. She tells them that her mom is fine, when she's actually very sick. She even tries to get her mom to run away! In the end she finds out that whether she likes it or not, her mom needs help. I think that often times we think to much of ourselves and what we want that we never stop and think of others. I agree with Ann Dee Ellis in the fact that we need to consider what everyone needs, not just our self.

  11. I believe that the theme in my book, The Trial, is that justice can be hard to come by the more famous the victim and the more infamous the defending lawyer. In my book there is a man, Bruno Richard Hauptmann, who is accused of kidnapping and killing Charles Lindberg's son Charles Jr. The book talks of how some people have changed their stories because they were payed by the prosecution to just be a witness. Also, the book talks of how no one on the jury would go against Lindberg just because he was a national hero. There is also a mention of how most people didn't believe in Hauptmann because his lawyer was "Death House" Reilly who had not won a single case in years.

  12. In my book "Everything Is Fine" by Ann Dee Ellis I believe the theme is that, what you want is not always best. In my book the main character, Mazzy is desperately determined to keep her depressed mom out of treatment centers. She lies to her dad. She lies to a social worker about her mom's condition. She even tries to get her mom to run away! Eventually, in the end Mazzy realizes that her mom does need help, and gives up her own desire of wanting her mom to help her mom heal. I agree with Ann Dee Ellis in the fact that sometimes we need to forget about what we want and think of others.

  13. I read the book called "Street Love". I think the theme of this book is to never lose hope, even in the worst time in your life. In this story, a girl named Junice feels like her life is over. Her mom is in jail for the rest of her life for selling drugs. She has to live with her grandmother who has also done some really bad things in life. Junice is hopeless, until one day when she is at school, sitting on the bench, waiting for her named being called into the office, a boy named Damain sits right next to her. Just one look and they fall in love. Events go by in the story and then Junice has to go to Memphis and leave everything behind, including Damain. When she's at the bus stop, Damain shows up and goes with her. Even though she's going to go live a new scary life, she has hope right next to her.

  14. I think the theme of my novel is to never judge someone based on their outside appearance. I think this because in my book, a girl is worried because she likes a guy but he is really nerdy and no one else likes him. But then she gets to know him and they fall in love.

  15. I believe the them of my book, Locomotion is not to give up on life and to keep on going because the main character (Lonnie) has his parents killed in a fire and he has to live with a women called Miss Edna. He tries to stay happy as much as he can but sometimes reality comes back and hits him with the fact that he can never see his parents for any occasions or any of the fun things they used to to when they were alive. So he writes poems about anything he want from something random to something that really means something to him.

  16. the theme of my first book, ' brushing moms hair" was feeling alone and strugglingthrough a tough time in life. in the book, a girl is a dancer and hears her frined talking about how someone had one of their breasts cut off and it almost made her cry because her mom has breast cancer and had both of her breasts cut off. it also talks about how stressed out this girl gets from having to handle school, dance and her mom's cancer. by the end of the book it shows relief because her mom's cemo therapy is ovet and the cancer is gone.
my second book, "god goes to beauty school" is themed around life lessons such as treat people equal, dont worry about how you look. it also focuses on how god "feels". forexample, one of the poems is about god going to the doctor and having a skip in his heart because some people dont belive in him. the theme could also mean be happy with the lifeyou live.

  17. I believe that the theme of this book is that you can be friends with anyone you want to be. Josie has cerebral plasy and lives with her mom and Gran in a small farmhouse that has been with her family for generations. Most of the land was sold and now new mansions are going up behind Josie's little ranch. A new boy, Jordan, moves into one of the mansions nearby and they become best friends. Jordan is extremely intelligent. Many people judged Josie and Jordan for being friends, but that didn't change anything. Another potential theme to this novel is not to lie to your parents. Josie ditched a disibility clinic to wait for Jordan to return from his science camp. Josie hid this from her mother and it caused a lot of trouble.

  18. In my book, Kaleidoscope Eyes, I think that the theme is to follow your heart and your dreams no matter who doubts you or stands in the way. I think this because Lyza, Carolann, and Malcolm go through so many obstacles trying to find Lyzas Grampa's treasure that he mapped out. Such as Denise trying to convince they're dad that Lyza is doing drugs when she is the one with the many, many problems, and as a result Lyza is given a job as a dishwasher and does chores every night to keep her oppupied and "drug free" so her dad thinks. Lyza doesn't tell anybody of her Grampa's maps and messages besides Malcolm and Carolann because she trusts them most and know they can help her through her journey that she takes throughout this story.

  19. I think the theme of my book is never give up, anything is survivable. the book i am reading is called Wolf Pack. It is by Paul Brown. It follows the life of a wolf. It simply refers to him as "Wolf". He has to face many hardships in his fight to survive the bitter winter of Canada. They range from trying to catch food to keep himself from starving all the way to trying to defend himself from a hungry Polar Bear. In the beginning he is a loner but by the end he has a new wolf pack and family.

  20. I believe that the theme of my novel is to be yourslef and no one else. Through most of the novel, JoEllen is two different people. During the week she is Ellen, a city girl, living with her mother, eating take-out everyday, going to the movies, baseball games and hanging out with friends. She doesn't quite know her calling yet. On the weekends, she is Joey. She goes to her dad's house out in the country, or what her friends know as "hicktown", cooking up random things, hanging with her cousin, Hayden, exploring the woods, riding horses, and catching sunfish worms. JoEllen doesn't really want to be two different people every week, and doesn't know which one to be all the time. JoEllen decides everything would be way eaiser if she could just be one person, so she decides to go by JoEllen, not Ellen, not Joey, JoEllen. She starts cooking for her mother, and brings her city friends to the country for a farm weekend. By the end, JoEllen is happy with the way things are. She doesn't have to be two people anymore. All JoEllen really wanted to be was herself.

  21. I believe the theme of my book, "Jude" is to never give up and never lose hope. A example is that Syvia's family is forced to enter the ghetto under Nazi control because they are Jewish. They stick together and some die but in the end the Russians came to their aid and they drove the Nazi's out and released the Jews from their ghettos.

  22. I belive the theme of my book Shakespeare Makes the Playoffs is to follow your heart and do what you think is best. In this book the character Kevin is a little afraid in the begining to write poetry. Hes afraid because, he dosent want to get teased for it. Kevin eventually relizes that he dosent care what other people think. He is going to write poetry and try to share it with the world. Kevin learns to follow his heart with either his girlfriend, Mira or his amazing friend, Amy who has the same love for poetry as he dose. In the end Kevin learned how to follow his heart to the right girl for him.

  23. What I believe the theme of Love That Dog is that poetry doesn't need the opinion of others. I believe this to be the theme because Jack is always scared that no one will like his poems if Miss. Stretchberry writes his name on the board. So if Jacks teacher writes his poem on the board, Jack asks for Miss. Stretchberry not to put his name so no one knows who wrote the poem. Even though Jack gets good compliments from his peers he still believes his poems are just words on paper. That is why I believe the theme of Love That Dog is to not worry about the opinion of others because the reward could be great.

  24. I believe that the theme of my book, Shark Girl, is that you can't give up even when the odds are against you. For exeample, Jane makes lemon bars for her mother on mother's day. No one expects someone with one arm to do that, but she didn't up and she did it.

  25. To me the theme of the book, "What My Mother Doesn't Know" is to not judge others by what is said about them, that you should get to know them first. In this book, Sophie is a popular, pretty girl with a lot going for her. She is dating Dylan and all is well, until she starts to notice Murphy, the outcast at school. Her and Dylan have some problems and soon break up. Over winter break while "everyone" is out of town for the holidays, Sophie visits an art museum where she really connects with Murphy. At first they are just friends and Sophie is a little embarrassed to be seen with Murphy. Though as time goes on Sophie uncovers Murphy's true personality, and they soon fall in love. Sophie learned that you shouldn't disapprove and tease someone just because that's what everyone else does.

  26. I think that the theme of my book, "Heaven looks alot like the mall" is about making sure your life is worth watching when you die, because in my book Tessa the main character expierences "near death" and goes to the place she has spent most of her life. The mall. Then all these memories pop back in her head, and she isn't sure if they are good. She learns new things about her self and regrets others. So the theme of my book is Make good choices first so you don't have to regret them later.

  27. I think the theme of my novel, Bronx Masquerade by Nikki Grimes, is that if you put forth effort to express your feelings, then you can be happier. In my story there a multiple different characters in a class together. When their teacher creates open mike Friday's where people can share poetry, people begin to get interested. Most of the characters have gone through some hardships in their life and feel the need to write about them. For some its tough to think of a poem or just present one. For others if rapping is their thing then they can be really good at it. And after everyone shares their poem they feel a lot better about themselves, and people know more about them.

  28. The theme of my book, Heartbeat by Sharon Creech, is no matter what life throws at you, you will still be okay. I think this is the theme because Annie, the main character, is an only child but when her mother is expecting another child and Annie doesn't know what to think about having a sibling. And her grandfather is slowly loosing his mind, so much so that he doesn't even recognize the pictures on his bedroom wall that have been there for years nor does he remember how to make fried chicken. Another example is her best friend, Max, is becoming moody and unpredictable ever since he joined the track team. Annie is able to overcome all this stress in her life by drawing, running, and having her friends and family there to support her. In the end of the book, Annie feels that even though her life is changing, everything will turn out okay.
